Masters in Teaching English
to Speakers of Other Languages

The MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is a part-time distance learning (block-taught) postgraduate programme for teachers of English which enhances their understanding of and skills in teaching, and their capacity to undertake research in TESOL.

It is taught at ITESO, Guadalajara, by tutors from the Centre for International Language Teacher Education, University College Plymouth St Mark & St John (UCP Marjon) who have expertise in TESOL research and scholarship, and experience of the Mexican TESOL context.

ITESO is Guadalajara’s Jesuit University in Mexico. Founded in 1957, it belongs to a network of over 200 Jesuit universities around the world. It shares with them a 450-year-old educational tradition, historically located at the focal point of world thought and recognized for preparing leaders in all fields of the arts and sciences.

It is the first private university of the central-western region of Mexico to offer postgraduate programmes of excellence recognized by the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT, in its initials in Spanish) and the Mexican Society for the Public Communication of Science and Technology (SOMEDICYT).

‘Marjon’ is the short name for the University College Plymouth St. Mark and St John in the UK. Marjon tutors have extensive, continuous and long-term experience in delivering postgraduate programmes for ELT professionals in Mexico, dating back to 1992. They are experts in working with Mexican teachers and have a good understanding of the Mexican context.

Successful MA TESOL graduates now work at universities, in schools, as consultants and in publishing throughout Mexico.
