Spanish Prep and Introduction to Mexican Culture
A required course for international students who spend a semester or year as complete immersion exchange students. An integrated skills course for academic purposes, it focuses on the acquisition and development of language and cultural skills for success in the Mexican university classroom. Students read and discuss representative texts; listen to take notes on lectures; and write texts. They also compare life in Mexico and its universities with those of other cultures. (45 class-hours)

The program

Two weeks of classes prior to the fall semester, with regular assignments and self-study.

This is what you will study

Language Skills and Development
Grammar review, vocabulary development and practice, listening, speaking, reading and writing

Cultural Awareness
Look at life in Mexico and its universities and compare them with those of other cultures.

Spanish in Academia
Read and discuss texts; listen to and take notes of academic lectures; and write texts.

Learning outside the Classroom
Make the most of your immersion experience to learn in a Spanish-speaking environment.

Language level

To take full advantage of the course, you should have an intermediate to upper intermediate level in Spanish.

Class schedule

Monday to Friday from 9 to 11:30 a.m., and from 11:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

Where can you live?

Take advantage of the Host Family Housing Program so that you can live with specially selected host families and enjoy traditional meals.

What about medical insurance?

You are required to have medical and accident insurance during your stay in Mexico. This program does not provide insurance coverage. Be sure to bring a copy of your insurance coverage.

Course fees

Not applicable for incoming students under an institutional agreement.

For visiting international students:

Plan A  $735 US Dlls with home stay

Plan B  $425 US Dlls course only

How to apply

1. Be sure you meet the Spanish language level.

2.   Download the application form and fill it out .  Please do not forget to include your e-mail as registrations will be acknowledged by e-mail.

3. Send your application form. If you are a visiting student, please send a $100 US Dlls deposit by June 30, 2009.

Be sure to let us know if you chose Plan A (with home stay) or Plan B (without homestay).

4.  Pay the balance of payment for the plan you chose at your arrival on August 3, 2009.
